Agitation and Propaganda / Agitats i propaganda. Colloquial for Department of Agitation and Propaganda in the Central Committee and local committees of the Communist party until 1934.

AKhRR
Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia, AKhRR (Assotsiatsiya khudozhnikov revoliutsionnoi Rossii). Founded 1922, changed name to Association of Artists of the Revolution in 1928. Disbanded 1932.

ASNOVA

Association of New Architects / Assotsiatsiya novykh arkhitektorov. Registered in 1923., split in 1928.

COMINTERN

Communist International / Kommunisticheskii internatsional. 1919–1943.

GINKhUK

State Institute of Artistic Culture / Gosudarstvennyi institut khudozhestvennoi kultury. It was located in Petrograd / Leningrad, originally within the Museum of Artistic Culture there. Formally authorised in 1924.

GITIS

A. V. Lunacharskii State Institute of Theatrical Art of the Order of the Labour Red Banner / Gosudarstvennyi ordena Trudovogo Krasnogo Znameni institut teatralnogo iskusstva imeni A. V. Lunacharcheskogo. Founded 1922.

GLAVNAUKA

State Administration for the Arts / Glavnoe upravlenie nauchnym nauchno-khudozhestvennymi, muzeinymi i po okhrane prirody uchrezhdeniiami. 1921–1930.

GUVUZ

Main Administration of Higher and Secondary Pedagogical Institutions / Glavnoe upravlenie vysshikh i srednykh pedagogicheskikh uchebnykh zavedenii.

GVYRM

State Higher Directors' Workshop / Gosudarstvennye vysshie rezhisserskie masterskie. 1921–1922 when merged with GITIS.

GVYTM

State Higher Theatre Workshop / Gosudorstvennye vysshie teatralnye masterskie. 1921–1922 when merged with GITIS.

InKhUK

Institute of Artistic Culture, InKhUK / Institut khudozhestvennoi kultury. It was located in Moscow and linked to the Museum of Artistic Culture there. Founded May 1920.

IZO

Department of Visual (or Plastic) Arts, Otdel izobrazitelnykh iskusstv. It was the arts section within the People's Commissariat of Enlightenment, Narkompros. Founded 1918.

KOMFUT

Communists-Futurists / Kommunisty-futuristy. Founded by Vladimir Mayakovsky in 1918.

LEF

Left Front of the Arts / Levyi front iskusstv. 1922–1928.

NARKOMPROS

People's Commissariat of Enlightenment / Narodnyi komissariat prosveshcheniia. It replaced the former Ministry of Culture. Anatolii Lunacharsky was the first Commissar in 1918, resigning under pressure in September 1929.

NEP

New Economic Policy / Novaia ekonomicheskaia politika. Set up in May 1921.

Society of Young Artists / Obshchestvo molodykh khudozhnikov. 1919–1923 .

Society of Painters / Obshchestvo stankovistov. 1925–1931.
